Friends is a nonprofit organization organized exclusively for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our mission is to protect and preserve Scarritt's Mill Pond, its dam structure, and surrounding natural habitat in West Hartford, Connecticut through conservation initiatives, community education, habitat restoration, and environmental stewardship.

1. Purpose of this Website

This website is provided to share information concerning Friends, Scarritt's Mill Pond, conservation and habitat restoration efforts, educational initiatives, community activities, volunteer opportunities, fundraising efforts, and other matters related to our nonprofit mission.

Friends' mission includes the protection, preservation, and stewardship of Scarritt's Mill Pond, its dam structure, and surrounding natural habitat. References on this website to Friends' conservation, preservation, maintenance, fundraising, educational, or stewardship activities should not be interpreted as a representation that Friends owns Scarritt's Mill Pond, the dam, surrounding land, or any other property associated with the pond.

4. Donations

Friends may accept charitable contributions through this website or through third-party payment processing services.

Donations are used to support Friends' charitable, scientific, educational, conservation, preservation, restoration, community outreach, and other activities in furtherance of its nonprofit mission.

Unless Friends expressly agrees otherwise in writing, a donation does not entitle the donor to direct or control the particular use of donated funds.

Friends will endeavor to honor a donor's stated preference or designation when a designated fundraising opportunity is offered. However, to the extent permitted by law and consistent with any applicable donor restriction accepted by Friends, Friends retains appropriate discretion and control over charitable funds in furtherance of its exempt purposes.

Donations are generally nonrefundable. Friends may, however, correct duplicate or erroneous transactions or issue a refund when Friends determines that doing so is appropriate.

The tax deductibility of a contribution depends upon applicable law and the donor's individual circumstances. Donors should consult their own tax advisors concerning the tax treatment of a contribution. Any acknowledgment or receipt issued by Friends is not tax advice.
