Deciding on a New Solution

By 2025, the neighborhood association board had hit a wall with the pond and were concerned that we had only 3-5 years before it would turn into a swamp. Years had gone by since the 1982 dredging, and the group thought that their only solution was to dredge again. But the quotes in recent years had been $400,000 or more, clearly not an amount that could be met by the 60 houses that surround the pond and dam.

One of the new association board members was convinced there had to be another solution. So she researched everything she could find and happened upon a fairly new treatment called TryMarine.

She had a long call with one of the TryMarine sales reps and was pleasantly surprised but also skeptical of both the cost for a 3 year treatment and the promises for the rejuvenation of the pond. Coincidentally, it also turned out that the exclusive right to sell TryMarine was held by the current lake management company, SOLitude.

So the board decided to discuss this new treatment with the Membership at the annual meeting in April 2025. The TryMarine sales rep drove down from New Hampshire to attend in person, give an overview of the treatment, and answer questions. The decision to move forward with TryMarine was unanimous from those in attendance at the meeting.

Neighbors pledged amounts they were willing to pay for each of the three years of the plan. And by May 2025, we had received enough funds to start the treatment with a promise for at least some continued donations for years 2 and 3.

What is TryMarine? (from their website)

TryMarine is a platform of products, systems and methods tuned and proven to enhance biodiversity and unleash the power of ecosystems to naturally respond to environmental breakdowns. TryMarine offers the power to remediate decades of accumulated ecological damage by reversing the downward spiral of nutrient and waste inundation and creating an efficient virtuous circle powered by the sun and natural balance.

Unique and Proven Technology

TryMarine offers the most modern solution for lake rejuvenation:

Fast: Lakes typically are measurably enhanced within 30-45 days, and healthier within 6 months

Safe: TryMarine is eco-friendly, and could actually make water bodies healthier for fish and other fauna (like us)

Affordable: TryMarine offers proven permanent results at a lower cost than competitors for large scale water remediation

Scalable: TryMarine is effective in small ponds to large lakes, as well as rivers or near shore applications, with economies of scale s

NSF Standard 60 - TryMarine is approved for use in drinking water

Process and Successes are Unique

  • Eutrophied lakes and rivers can begin remediating in a matter of weeks

  • Scalability is infinite even for flowing or open waters

  • Does not require heavy or permanent equipment

  • Information Capture and Feedback System enables collaboration to quickly diagnose problems and prescribe solutions

  • Cost effective - often a small fraction of alternative methods

TryMarine Does Not

  • Use an external energy source

  • Flocculate impurities for skimming or manual removal

  • Coagulate impurities for bottom packing – exacerbating long-term eutrophication

  • Rely on algaecides, non-native organisms or dredging

TryMarine Does

  • Re-establish natural bio-diversity

  • Support ecosystem stability and reduce stress

  • Allow for price effective long-term management through response to measurable statistics

  • Improve the health and abundance of fish and fauna (scientifically documented)

Results at Scarritt’s Mill Pond

2025 - Year 1

The first year payment was fully funded by the surrounding neighbors. The treatment was a great success with clearer water, more fish, and 6” of depth gained as promised. A neighbor who has lived in the neighborhood since her childhood said that her children (pictured above) were able to catch fish in the pond for the first time in over 10 years.

2026 - Year 2

TryMarine treatment has continued late spring through the summer, again with donations from local neighbors. We have another month of treatment before we will have the findings from our second year but the clarity that has been attained is undeniable.
